zaporizhzhya national technical university (zntu) started in 1900 seven-year mechanical technical vocational college, preparing technic – mechanics specialists. sometime education creation of main buildings carried out. main three-storied building built. main building of zntu, housed lecture rooms, physical , mechanical studies, laboratories, assembly hall , shop selling ready-made products.

at end of first decade 240 people studied in college. graduates college worked @ machine-construction enterprises promoting rise of colleges reputation. considered 1 of best not in ukraine, in europe.

in 1920 college reorganized zaporizhzhya industrial technical school 4 year studies (possessing rights of high school). november 1922 1930 industrial school educational enterprise training engineer-mechanics agricultural machine construction , general machine construction. many graduates became leading industrial specialists , statesmen. in 1930 technical school reorganized zaporizhzhya agricultural engineering institute training specialists in 4 subjects: tractor , agricultural engineering, metal treatment , foundry.

in 10 years before start of great patriotic war, 782 people got engineer’s diplomas , worked @ zaporizhzhya’s plants. during war, more 500 students , lecturers went front, 52 people studied @ artillery academy named after f.e. dzerzhinsky, 30 people finished accelerated courses of armored academy. more 300 students , lecturers awarded state orders , medals. more 50 members of technical school did not return front.

after zaporizhzhya liberated in 1944 zaporizhzhya automechanical institute organized , 3 years later became zaporizhzhya agricultural engineering institute, until 1957 whein renamed zaporizhzhya machine construction institute (zmi). in 1980 zmi received badge of honor preparation of highly qualified professionals. between 1930-1990 institute prepared 40,000 engineers, including 825 foreign countries.

zaporizhzhya state technical university created cabinet of ministers of ukraine decision dated 20 april 1994. in august 2001 according ukrainian president’s decree zstu awarded status of national institution. during 2006-2007 separate structural units: berdyansk machine construction college, tokmak mechanical school, zaporizhzhya college of radioelectronics, zaporizhzhya electrotechnical college , humanitarian college entered university.
