bus. i-40 d begins @ interstate 40 exit 62a west of amarillo near cadillac ranch. highway runs east through low developed area before entering amarillo city limits before intersection loop 335 (soncy road). bus. i-40 d turns northeast @ interchange coulter street/wolffin avenue before briefly running north @ interchange sw 9th avenue/bell street (near main campus of amarillo college). highway starts turning northeast @ tascosa road/gem lake road before running straight east @ n. western street interchange. after interchange, bus. i-40 d begins travel through heavily developed area of city before meeting u.s. route 60/u.s. route 87/u.s. route 287 north of downtown , begins overlap u.s. route 60. 2 highways continue travel through heavily developed area of city, development becoming more sparse after state highway 136 intersection. bus. i-40 d becomes divided highway after interchange loop 335 (lakeside drive) , runs along northern border of rick husband amarillo international airport. after leaving amarillo city limits, u.s. route 60 leaves highway , bus. i-40 d starts run southeast. bus. i-40 d meets eastern terminus @ i-40 exit 85.
