layout

a typical comics page layout.







panel

a panel, frame or box 1 drawing on page, , contains segment of action. page may have 1 or many panels, , panels frequently, not always, surrounded border or outline, shape can altered indicate emotion, tension or flashback sequences. size, shape , style of panel, placement of figures , speech balloons inside it, affect timing or pacing of story. panels used break , encapsulate sequences of events in narrative. occurs in panel may asynchronous, meaning not occurs in single panel occurs @ 1 time.


gutter

the gutter space between panels. vertical gutters can made thinner horizontal gutters in order encourage reader group each row of panels easier reading.


tier

a tier singular row of panels.


splash

a splash or splash page large, full-page illustration opens , introduces story. less half page, , covers 2 pages. designed decorative unit, purpose capture reader s attention, , can used establish time, place , mood.


spread

a spread image spans more 1 page. two-page spread common, there spreads span more pages, making use of foldout (or gatefold).
