both spanish government , spanish missionaries established number of hospitals in philippines. first hospital erected spaniards in cebu during 1565. first hospital later transferred manila purpose of treating sick , wounded military personnel. establishment of other health , charity institutions followed. missionaries established hospitals in philippines franciscans, brotherhood of misericordia, brotherhood of san juan de dios, , dominicans. there lay government people became founders of hospitals during time period. among hospitals in philippines following:

manila had hospital real de españoles (royal spanish hospital, existed 1577 1898), hospital de los indios naturales (hospital of native indians, existed 1578 1603), hospital de santa ana (st. anne hospital, founded in 1603, still exists today), hospital de la misericordia (mercy hospital, existed 1578 1656), hospital of san juan de dios (st. john of god hospital, established in 1656, , still existing present), hospital de san lazaro (hospital of st. lazarus, hospital lepers established in 1603, still exists today), hospital de san pedro martir (st. peter martyr hospital, 1587 1599), , hospital de san gabriel (st. gabriel hospital, hospital specialty chinese community of binondo, 1599 1774).

in cavite, hospital del espiritu santo (holy spirit hospital) existed 1591 1662. hospital took care of sailors, marine personnel, shipbuilders, , carpenters among others.


laguna

in laguna, hospital de nuestra señora de las aguas santas de mainit (our lady of holy waters hospital in mainit, mainit being name of place hot springs in laguna) existed 1597 1727 , re-established 1877 , still existing present. hospital built franciscan missionaries on top of location of hot springs in los baños, laguna due therapeutic effects of natural springs body of sick people, had observed filipinos of time bathe in hot springs despite of being ill.


naga

in naga, hospital de santiago (st. james s hospital) existed 1611 1691. hospital named hospital de san lazaro (hospital of st. lazarus), different 1 catering leper patients in manila, existed 1873 , still functioning today.
