sallie joy white (1897)


she married musician henry k. white, jr. in 1874 , quit job @ post. couple had 2 daughters, bessie , grace. in 1879, shortly after birth of second daughter, henry moved california, leaving sallie support herself , children. widowed mother came live , care children while worked. white later dedicated book, housekeepers , home-makers, mother, best housekeeper , dearest home-maker ever knew.


she died of anemia @ home in dedham, massachusetts, on march 25, 1909, after long illness. many of newspaper colleagues attended funeral service in forest hills, including several boston herald associates served pallbearers. among representing new england woman s press association civil rights leader josephine st. pierre ruffin , newpa co-founder helen m. winslow.
