uconn continued rise national program throughout 1990s, winning 5 more big east regular season , 3 more big east tournament championships, reaching several regional finals. final 4 still eluded calhoun , program until 1999 ncaa tournament. richard rip hamilton leading way, claimed program s first national title same year. calhoun s teams go on win 2 more national championships during tenure @ uconn.


calhoun inducted basketball hall of fame in 2005, , officially announced retirement in september 2012.


after breakup of old big east in 2013, uconn remained member of american athletic conference, legal successor original conference. therefore charter member of original big east still playing in conference.
