in november 1942, royal navy transferred leamington royal canadian navy, joining western local escort force, escorting convoys new york , halifax, nova scotia off newfoundland, convoys handed on mid-ocean escort force. experienced extremely bad weather, extensive icing conditions, while operating in north atlantic in late 1942 , 1943. @ 1 point, ship reached halifax after severe gale on 22 january 1943, coated bridge forecastle deck ice varying 2–10 ft (0.61–3.05 m) thick.
in april 1943, leamington collided american minesweeper uss albatross , under repair @ halifax until 3 june. later month, collided merchant ship mortimer , repaired @ norfolk, virginia work continuing until october 1943.
