in 1967, beardmore joined collegiate coaching ranks @ hobart college. led statesmen 9–5 record , share of laurie cox division championship. following season, took on head coach @ university of virginia. season, guided cavaliers 7–6 record, following year, in 1969, team improved 7–3 , captured atlantic coast conference regular season championship.
maryland
in 1970, beardmore returned alma mater, remained 11 years , amassed 107–31 record. during tenure, maryland won 7 outright acc championships , shared another. beardmore led maryland 1973 , 1975 ncaa tournament championships. maryland finished runners-up 4 times after losing in tournament finals in 1971, 1974, 1976, , 1979. in 1973, awarded f. morris touchstone award division coach of year.

in 1975, maryland played 6 ncaa games, minimum required eligible ncaa tournament, rest of games against non-association teams of game in beardmore s words. terrapins lost 2 of 6 ncaa games (against virginia , navy), did not secure acc championship, went instead virginia, , failed qualify ncaa tournament. nevertheless, maryland advanced through tournament , championship game, defeated navy, 20–13.

professional teams
in 1974, in midst of tenure @ university of maryland, beardmore hired head coach of maryland arrows of national lacrosse league. before season started, however, franchise elevated him position of general manager.
beardmore coached washington wave of short-lived eagle pro box lacrosse league in 1987. led team 2–4 regular season record, advanced championship game in playoffs, defeated, 11–10, baltimore thunder.
