life , career

vivian chow child in family. father passed away before birth due heart disease. brought mother , grandmother. chow graduated st. stephen’s church college , gained 6th grade in piano.

born , raised in hong kong, chow entered new talent singing awards held tvb & capital artists in 1985. began singing ＆ acting career winning first runner-up @ freelance dj competition held rthk in 1986.

sancity record (1988-1991)

in 1988, chow invited tvb hosted tv music program “jade solid gold. chow starred in first movie “heart heart” , nominated “best new performer” of hong kong film awards role in movie. chow joined sancity record in same year , released debut platinum single, “vivian”, got platinum award.

chow won “best new prospect exceptional award” of top 10 gold songs award in 1989. later, hosted young-oriented current-affairs program “modern era” of rthk television joe nieh.

in 1990, chow acted in first tv drama “the hunter’s prey” , released first , second solo album “vivian” , “情迷”.

polygram (1991-1992)

chow resigned rthk , started focus on career singer , actress in 1991. chow joined polygram , released third debut album “a long , lasting love” in november.

in 1992, chow named 1 of “ten artists healthy image” commercial radio hong kong. forth & fifth debut album “endless dream” , “winter romance” released in same year.

polygram + linfair (1992-1996)

chow joined linfair record taiwan , broke taiwan market releasing song “rumor” in 1992. first mandarin debut album “rumor” released in november , sold total of more 300,000 copies.

in 1993, chow won 3rd place in “next magazine tv awards popular artists” (first place of female artists) role on tv drama “the greed of man”. second mandarin debut album released in may , got 6 platinum award. chow chosen “most popular female artist” taiwan media. later, chow released sixth cantonese debut album “most love” got double platinum award. cantonese featured album , third mandarin debut album “vivian & mind” released in end of year. chow won metro hit radio’s “best female singer-bronze award” , japan nhk’s “most popular foreign female singer award”. chow released first japanese debut album “love legend” broke japanese market in april 1994. @ same month, chow released seventh cantonese debut album “growing up”. forth mandarin debut album “leaving habit of depression”, eighth cantonese debut album “the time of red leaves drifting” , mandarin duet debut album “know , enemies” released in year. chow got breakthrough in singer career total selling of these cantonese , mandarin albums got 8 platinum award. chosen “most popular hong kong female singer award” japanese media.

chow’s taiwan concert tour started @ changhua stadium on 11 june 1994, , continued @ kaohsiung stadium on june 18, 1994 , taipei stadium on 25 june 1994. chow returned hong kong in second half of year, holds 4 shows in hong kong coliseum @ oct 7-8 , 14-15.

in 1995, chow won award of “tvb jsg top ten 94 new generation performance (sliver)”. released ninth cantonese debut album “a little more love” in may. first japanese ep released in june. japanese duet “今を抱きしめて” sang japanese singer asaku yoshida included in japanese ep , fifth mandarin debut album “處處留情” released in july. chow named 1 of “asian pop divas” japanese music critics along faye wong, sandy lam , sally yip , 1 of “top 10 popular performers” in china.

in 1996, chow released last cantonese debut album “熱敏” in may, last mandarin debut album “time” in october , first mandarin featured album “周慧敏的敏感地帶” in december before semi-retirement. has been elected 1 of “top 10 worldwide celebrities on internet” internet users.

polygram + taurus records (1997-1998)

chow joined taurus records in 1997 , released second ep “逢いにゆきたいの” in february. voted 1 of “top 10 celebrities on internet’ (the #1 chinese celebrity on poll results). after chow announced not take entertainment jobs when held concert in atlantic city in november, polygram hong kong released featured album “”回憶從今天開始” included new song “男女之間”, japanese song “逢いにゆきたいの” , 15 chow’s hit songs summarize chow’s music.

at beginning of 1998, taurus records released japanese version of featured album “あの日から始まった”, included 18 chow’s 18 best hits including “自動自覺” , “真愛在明天”.

semi-retirement (1998-2003)

after left entertainment scene, chow moved vancouver joe nieh , appeared in public places occasionally. obsessed painting, writing , playing pool. painting “old man san geung” , “looking towards future” won many painting awards.

chow , nieh returned hong kong cats in 2003 because outbreak of sars stopped them returning canada. chow revealed reason stopped entertainment career in 1997 in tvb talk show “queen’s feast”. “my tv, movie, agency , record contracts expired in 1997, tried gain life experiences outside of entertainment , music industries.

back stage (2004-)

in 2004, chow launched first book “my cat son pal chow” sold more 20,000 books , in top 10 best-selling books several months. chow invited shiseido spokesperson asia region in same year. after entertainment scene, chow works part-time , obsesses community services. worked world vision hong kong, oxfam, hong kong aid foundation, cancer fund, society abandoned animals limited (saa) , non-profit making veterinary service society (npv) promote taking care of social vulnerable group through social influence.

chow returned hong kong coliseum perform in “back love” concert on 25–27 may 2006 after stepped on stage twelve years ago. donated of rewards got 3 concerts npv raise money establishing veterinary clinic grand opened on chow’s birthday in same year.

25th anniversary of debut (2011-2013)

chow held concert “deep v.25” on 19–20 march 2011 @ hong kong coliseum , released anniversary ep “potted plants” celebrate 25th anniversary of debut. appearance of sean lau in concert surprised chow , audiences because first reunion of pair of main characters in famous tv drama “the greed of man”. few days after fukushima daiichi nuclear disaster , 2011 tōhoku earthquake , tsunami, when yoshie kashiwabara came hong kong 1 of special guests, chow decided sell cd s , souvenirs designed leo ku, proceeds given charity japanese relief funds. chow’s cat sons pal chow , chu jai passed away month before concert.

after concert in hong kong, chow started world tour “vivian chow journey of love”.

in 2013, chow started own talent agency, v vision workshop limited. agent lorraine chan (leo ku s wife) talent agent.

first time starred in taiwanese movie , produced gospel album (2014-)

in 2014, chow starred in taiwanese movie “cafe. waiting. love” released on 15 august 2014 in hong kong , taiwan. movie got results in both places. box office reached 20 million in hong kong , 200 million in taiwan. chow invited sing theme song “咖啡在等一個人” included in movie soundtrack.

chow’s first gospel album “him” released on 18 december 2014. album produced chow , issued emperor group music , linfair record limited. english song “a love this” composited chow how faiths changed life. chow started participate in different forms of sermons share christian testimony after launching of album.
