the union organised first official protest against hicks , gillett on 22 february 2008. after learning tom hicks jr. planning attend game, members remained in stadium singing anti-owner songs after end of match. in addition this, many in group began display banners , sing in opposition ownership.

february 2010 saw launch of billboard campaign across merseyside. billboards had message tom & george: not welcome here displayed, in reference tom hicks , george n. gillett, jr., directing fans join spirit of shankly.

a large number of liverpool fans attended sos organised rally on st. george s hall plateau in liverpool city centre, held on american independence day, 4 july 2010. union declared day liverpool fans declare independence american owners. outlined how planning launch credit union partnership supporters can buy club. day included speeches in support of spirit of shankly , aims ex-liverpool players john aldridge , howard gayle; comedians john bishop (comedian) , neil fitzmaurice; members of parliament steve rotheram , alison mcgovern; general secretary of communication workers union billy hayes (trade unionist); karen gill, granddaughter of bill shankly; , music john power, pete wylie, ian mcnabb, peter hooton, john o connell , sons of anfield.
