the range extends west east on 800 kilometres (500 mi). highest peak mount roraima @ 2,810 metres (9,220 ft) above sea level, tepui surrounded cliffs 300 metres (980 ft) high.


it geologically part of guayana shield , biogeographically part of guayana highlands.


the mountains form divide between orinoco valley north , amazon basin south. serve natural boundary in east-west direction, extend 800 kilometres (500 mi) form border marker between brazil , southeastern venezuela , between brazil , west central guyana.

numerous rivers originate in these mountains , on way down plunge spectacularly form picturesque waterfalls. beautiful example of kaieteur falls in guyana.
