terrible brought portsmouth , surveyed there in june 1748. navy board authorised purchase on 30 september 1748, paying total of £11,211.11.0d, once sum had been abated repairs. small repair carried out @ portsmouth £7,024.18.6d between april , august 1750, , fitted out service in 1753. commissioned in may year portsmouth guardship, under command of captain robert pett. , samuel hood officer. passed captain philip durell in march 1755, , later under captain william holborne, while serving flagship of rear-admiral francis holburne. terrible sent reinforcement vice-admiral edward boscawen in may 1755, , despatched again in april 1756, time reinforce vice-admiral edward hawke. captain richard collins took command of later in 1756, , in summer of year terrible went out join boscawen s fleet.


she went out north america in april 1757, , present @ siege of louisbourg in 1758. returned north america in 1759, being @ assault on quebec in 1759. returned britain after this, , surveyed on 1 april 1760. admiralty order issued on 31 december 1762, instructing broken up. broken @ chatham, process completed 16 february 1763.
