david s line

after zedekiah, last king of judah forced out nebuchadnezzar in siege of jerusalem (jeremiah 32:4-5), lord says: david never fail have man sit on throne of house of israel... (jeremiah 33:17) jehoiachin placed in position of authority during babylonian exile @ end of 2 kings. called king under exile in several babylonian food-rationing lists.

jeremiah prophesied jehoiakim have no 1 sit on throne of david (jeremiah 36:30). son jehoiachin succeeded him king 3 months , ten days before nebuchadnezzar forced him out, ending reign of jehoiakim s descendants (2 chron. 36:8,9; 2 kings 24:8). after jehoiachin spent 37 years in prison, nebuchadnezzar s successor evil-merodach released imprisoned king jehoiachin , elevated him above other captive kings in babylon(2 kings 25:27). jehoiakim ancestor of jesus earthly father joseph according matt. 1:11 (skipped in list) (see 1 chronicles 3:15-16 , 2 kings 24:8).


in jeremiah 22:30, god states neither jehoiachin (also called jeconiah) or offspring prosper, none of offspring sit on throne of david , rule on judah.


jehoiachin s offspring did not sit on throne of david or rule on judah. 2 kings 25:27 records jehoiachin prisoner thirty 7 years. 2 years, evil-merodach king of babylon gave jehoiachin seat of honor higher of other kings him in babylon , gave him regular daily allowance days of life. (2 kings 25:27-30) family retained leadership of babylonian exiles (ezek. 1:2), , descendants @ head of returned zion. ancestor of jesus earthly father joseph according matt. 1:12.


solomon s line

god states house, throne , kingdom of david , offspring (called 1 build house name in verse) last forever.(2 sam. 7:12-16, 2 chronicles 13:5, psalm 89:20-37) 1 kings 9:4-7 1 ch 28:5 , 2 ch 7:17 state solomon s establishment conditional on solomon obeying god s commandments.


solomon built temple in jerusalem (2 chron. 6:7-10, 2 chronicles 2:1) , did not obey god s commandments (1 kings 11:1-14).


the destruction of kingdom of judah nebuchadnezzar in 586 bce brought end rule of royal house of david.
