upon arrival @ new orleans on 6 july, chickasaw decommissioned. temporarily bore name samson between 15 june , 10 august 1869 before resuming original name. sold on 12 september 1874 new orleans pacific railway company modified ship coal barge name of samson. railroad converted ship train ferry in 1880 , changed side-wheel propulsion under name gouldsboro. sold in 1940s new orleans coal & bisso towboat co. , converted work barge. sank off greenville bend of mississippi river in new orleans sometime during 1950s.
the wreck of gouldsboro discovered when section of riverbank collapsed in 2003 , army corps of engineers surveyed area in 2004 determine how best stabilize riverbank. there no plans raise wreck, corps of engineers preserve in place.
