this last batch of locomotives differed previous 7th class models in having large commodious cab double windows on each side, similar fitted ex central south african railways (csar) class 7b locomotives. afforded better protection crew. more 4 long tons (4.1 tonnes) heavier original 7th class locomotives, larger diameter boilers higher boiler pressure. power further improved increased cylinder diameter.
