the veronica sunbay in napier


a memorial hms veronica, veronica sunbay (initially called veronica sun bay), built in 1934 , dedicated in 1937 on napier s marine parade, commemorating efforts after city′s 1931 earthquake. beginning of inscription reads:



the veronica sun bay erected in 1934 commemorate hawke s bay earthquake of 3rd february 1931. memorial named in honour of hms veronica , outstanding service given officers , crew @ time of disaster. rebuilding of sun bay accomplished through initiative , leadership of rotary club of napier , contributions citizens of hawke s bay , napier city council. plaque unveiled @ dedication of rebuilt memorial. took place on sixtieth anniversary of earthquake - 3rd february 1991.
