peter born in adelaide, , after leaving school joined father s company, admitted partner shortly after turned 21. on death of father, peter, had shown remarkable business acumen , ability, took on management of business james gertrell. built new , imposing premises on north terrace , in 1920 turned private partnership limited liability company. particularly successful in forging business links fruit growers in renmark , along river murray.
other interests
peter wood followed father in religious observances , philanthropic interests. senior deacon of clayton church , superintendent of sunday school many years, , associated in other works of congregationalist church alongside sir edwin smith.
he took particular interest in victims of loch sloy shipwreck, , in citizens relief committee formed in conjunction visit of duke , duchess of cornwall , york (later king george v. , queen mary). on numerous boards , committees associated boys brigade, city mission, , our boys institute, boy scouts association, y.m.c.a., y.w.c.a., minda home, deaf , dumb institution, zoological gardens , adelaide workmen s homes, incorporated. associated town planning movement, vice-president of commonwealth club , active member of adelaide caledonian society. member of burnside district council 34 years, , chairman last five. member of liberal union , urged stand parliament.

he first-rate shot , expert horse rider. raised jersey cattle , successful in ring @ adelaide show. 1 of cows, maid of tarraganda, broke state record milk production. had private zoo @ beautiful home @ burnside, including fine herd of deer, purchased william gilbert of pewsey vale.
