in july 1998, through efforts of bishop henry j. mansell, announced remains of father baker relocated nearby holy cross cemetery , reinterred in basilica. move ordered congregation causes of saints in rome, signify step toward declaring baker saint.


on march 11, 1999, father baker s casket carried 6 men raised baker, , placed in sarcophagus within grotto shrine our lady of lourdes, found on southern end of basilica s transept. estimated 6,000 people attended event @ basilica day honor baker , work. reinterment helped raise awareness of baker, mission, , legacy across world.
