early life

giles rolls loder born on 10 november 1914 in london, england. father robert egerton loder (1887–1917) , mother, muriel rolls hoare (1879–1955). paternal grandfather sir edmund giles loder, 2nd baronet (1849–1920) , paternal great-grandfather sir robert loder, 1st baronet (1823–1888).

he graduated eton college, private boarding school in eton, berkshire, in 1936, , trinity college, constituent college of university of cambridge, in 1944.

public service

during world war ii, served in surrey , sussex yeomanry, , later worked vosper & company british navy. later served high sheriff of sussex in 1948 , justice of peace in 1949. served deputy lieutenant of west sussex in 1977.

horticulture

he served vice-president of royal horticultural society. recipient of victoria medal of honour horticultural prowess in 1968. @ family estate of leonardslee, planted hundresds of varieties of rhododendrons, magnolias, , camellias, , built 2 greenhouses.

yachting

an avid yachtsman, member of royal yacht squadron. took part in cowes week, 1 of longest-running regular regattas in world, skippered on kaylena, well-known 12-metre yacht.

personal life

on 11 july 1939, married marie violet pamela symons-jeune (unknown-2005), daughter of captain bertram symons-jeune, famous garden designer. had 2 sons:

sir edmund jeune loder, 4th baronet (born 1941). married (and later divorced) penelope jane forde. had daughter:

gillian marie loder (born 1968). married james d. p. morgan. had 2 children:

mathew morgan (born 1995).
olivia morgan (born 1996).




robert reginald loder (born 1943). married quenelda jane royden, daughter of sir john ledward royden, 4th baronet (1907–1976). had 4 children:

christopher giles loder (born 1968).
catherine marie violet loder (born 1970).
peter thomas loder (born 1972).
mary charlotte loder (born 1972).

they resided @ ockenden manor, grade ii*-listed house in cuckfield, west sussex.

he died on 24 february 1999.
