folk dancing

oxenham enthusiast of folk dancing , incorporated work; folk dancing mentioned in 38 abbey books, , english folk dance society (later english folk dance , song society) , leading members depicted in of them, real name, others under nicknames.

another theme used throughout series of may queens. hamlet club [formed in first book of series] chose, towards end of book, 1 of number may queen. time of abbey girls has become tradition in school of 3 years standing, , end of series, in 2 queens @ abbey club 27 years old , crowning joy s twin daughters joint 28th queen. thought whitelands college tradition of may queens [latterly may monarchs, since college became co-ed], inspired john ruskin, may in turn have inspired oxenham, perhaps through had met had been trained @ whitelands, no definite connection has been established. oxenham herself did not attend college.
