north of i-380, iowa 150 intersects 51st street. prior 1984, iowa 150 came north along current route , turned east onto 51st street , iowa 101 followed current path of iowa 150 vinton. highway heads due north, passing few houses until reaches us 20 south of independence. once in independence, crosses wapsipinicon river on concrete arch bridge. @ 1st street, route turns east 2 blocks before returning northward. on north side of town, iowa 150 passes independence motor speedway.

north of independence, iowa 150 continues north through farmland of rural buchanan county. passes through hazleton few miles before meets iowa 281 south of oelwein. north of iowa 281, runs along buchanan–fayette county line, iowa 150 enters oelwein along rock island road, eases 1st avenue. block east of downtown, @ charles street, iowa 3 approaches east , turns north onto iowa 150. 2 routes head through oelwein along frederick avenue , split couple miles north of town. highway turns east briefly , returns heading north until reaches fayette county road c33 (cr c33). there, turns east go through maynard , continues east until intersection iowa 187. iowa 187 comes south , ends @ intersection, while iowa 150 turns north , continues towards fayette.

at fayette, home of upper iowa university, iowa 150 intersects iowa 93 , crosses volga river on north side of town. between fayette , west union, highway forms western leg of river bluffs scenic byway, through area known locally little switzerland . in west union, route meets western end of iowa 56 on south side , us 18 in heart of town. north of west union, route gradually eases west through series of curves. south of unincorporated community of festina, route straightens out on way calmar. iowa 150 comes south, route ends in calmar @ intersection us 52, comes in east , turns north, , iowa 24, comes in west.
