fisheries products imported australia within year 2007–2008 accounted value of $1.4 billion; countries towards whom australia aims own exports, australian imports derive (approximately 80%) edible fishery products; remainder due again pearls , fishmeal, i.e. non-edible goods. during previous year, imports in fishery sector declined 5%, because of fall in demand of imported crustaceans, molluscs ( – 14%) , non-edibles (- 6%); notwithstanding, share of expense assigned imports has come exceed amount of income coming exportations: $1.4 billion > $1.3 billion. in fact, in 2007–2008 australia became net importer of fisheries products, both in terms of volume , in terms of value, although composition of exports differs imports’, being australian fisheries exports dominated high value species, while imports consist of lower value products such frozen or canned fish.
