located hour s drive minneapolis–saint paul, interstate park has received annual visitation comparable many u.s. national parks since 1930s.


the 2 parks administered separately , require separate vehicle permits. in 1987 each park began honoring other state s permit on weekdays, practice has since ceased. possible walk between parks crossing u.s. route 8 bridge. both parks have visitor center interpretive displays , gift shop.


the wisconsin park has 2 campgrounds 85 sites. group campsite accommodates 60 people. there 9 miles (14 km) of trail.


the minnesota park has campground showers , 37 sites, 22 of have electrical hookups. group campsite accommodates 100 people. there 4 miles (6.4 km) of trail. long-standing concession offers scenic boat cruises , canoe , kayak rentals shuttle service near osceola, wisconsin, , william o brien state park.


there swimming beach on lake o dalles, in wisconsin park. swimming in river dangerous because of strong currents. rock climbing permitted on many of cliffs on either side of river. sensitive areas, potholes, off limits climbing.
