d&l trail along delaware canal


the d&l trail 165-mile (266 km) multi-use trail. trail incorporates rail trails, rails trails, share-the-road sections, , canal towpaths.


the trail follows route anthracite coal took mine market. winds through northern mountains , along banks of lehigh , delaware rivers through northeast pennsylvania, lehigh valley, , bucks county. d&l trail passes through towns, industrial powerhouses, , along remnants of lehigh , delaware canals. earthen path exposes walkers, hikers, bicyclists, , others pennsylvania wildflowers, waterfalls, , wildlife.


currently, 135 miles (217 km) of trail completed. southern terminus of trail in bristol, bucks county. northern terminus of trail in mountain top, luzerne county. work has begun on extending trail mountain top—to—wilkes barre @ 7 tubs natural area. mountain top white haven, trail locally known black diamond trail. white haven jim thorpe, trail locally known lehigh gorge trail, 26-mile (42 km) section parallels lehigh river , valley of lehigh gorge @ lehigh gorge state park. easton bristol, trail known delaware canal towpath, 60-mile (97 km) section passes entirely through delaware canal state park. delaware canal towpath national recreation trail.


the highest point on trail 1,785 ft (544 m) in mountain top; lowest point 20 ft (6.1 m) in bristol.
