adolphe bridge designed paul séjourné (1902)


luxembourg city has several distinctive bridges. adolphe bridge, connecting old town centre or ville haute more recent gare district south, completed french architect paul séjourné in 1902. bridge consists of large central arch flanked smaller arches on either side. span of 84.65 m (277.72 ft), central arch largest of day. bridge being widened accommodate new tram line. design of walnut lane bridge in philadelphia copied adolph bridge.


the passerelle, designed edouard grenier , auguste letellier, completed in 1861. bridge 290 m (951 ft) long, 24 arches, , rises 45 m (148 ft) above pétrusse valley floor. connects city center railway station south.


the grand duchess charlotte bridge, completed in 1965, designed german architect egon jux. carrying road traffic on 3 lanes in each direction, connects city centre european institutions , financial district on kirchberg plateau. towers above little bridge known de béinchen (1786) forms part of vauban s fortifications.


the two-storey pont du château (castle bridge), built of sandstone austrians in 1735, replaces old drawbridge between cliffs of bock. provides access eastern end of old town hill clausen. in addition roadway @ top, has 3 other means of crossing: 1 across 4 upper arches, 1 through spiral staircase inside lower arch , 1 under sosthène weis, street below, through passage leading casemates.
