christopher plummer s longtime manager, lou pitt, 1 of film’s lead producers, recommended alan judd s novel kaiser s last kiss. pitt said: “the first time heard novel chris liked character , setting quite lot did after reading it... have been around 2005 or 2006. @ time, book under option, reason, kept eye on it.”


on 21 may 2014, egoli tossell film, , parent company film house germany, revealed film adaptation of judd s novel, in development. @ 2015 cannes film festival, lotus entertainment handling international sales film, titled kaiser s last kiss.


casting

on 12 may 2015, announced lily james play, opposite christopher plummer, mieke de jong. on 7 july 2015, jai courtney cast in leading role captain stefan brandt. on 11 september 2015, janet mcteer , eddie marsan joined cast of kaiser s last kiss princess hermine reuss of greiz , heinrich himmler, respectively.


filming

on 11 september 2015, confirmed principal photography underway in belgium, film shot in 33 days on 6 weeks in various locations in belgium in 2015.
