Awards and honours Mark Addy (oarsman)

in january 1878, before large crowd of people @ salford town hall in bexley square, mark presented loyal address of appreciation mayor of salford , awarded purse of 200 guineas heroic deeds, people of salford. after ceremony mr. james smith, member of humane society hundred of salford presented address , gold medal of society members of nearby nemesis rowing club added gold clasp token of appreciation. awarded number of other medals including silver medal of humane society hundred of salford , bronze medal of royal humane society.
in november 1878, addy received following letter prime minister benjamin disraeli:

the attention of sovereign having been called repeated acts of heroism performed in saving, @ risk of own life, of many of majesty s subjects drowning in river irwell, have gratification inform queen has been graciously pleased confer on you, in recognition of gallantry , daring, honour , distinction of albert medal of first class. have accordingly instructed secretary of state take necessary steps give effect majesty s commands.

the queen has been graciously pleased confer albert medal of first class on—
mark addy, of salford.
statement of case of mark addy, whom albert medal of first class has been granted in recognition of repeated acts of heroism in saving life drowning in river irwell.
mark addy, well-known oarsman , sculler, has resided life on banks of polluted river irwell; father , brothers having followed trade of boat builders.
during period of twenty-five years, has, under circumstances of imminent peril, both violence of river , pestilential nature of waters, saved no fewer six-and-thirty lives, several of cases having occurred subsequently date of creation of said order.
for heroic efforts , conspicuous gallantry, has, @ various times, received following distinctions :—
the bronze medal of royal humane society.
the silver medal of salford humane society.
the gold medal of salford humane society.
an illuminated address setting forth badges of honour salford humane society.
a purse of 200 guineas , illuminated address inhabitants of salford.
he presented albert medal, first class, mayor of salford, alderman robinson, on behalf of queen victoria in large assembly room of salford town hall in bexley square in june 1879.
