after 3 season of poor performance, club strengthened squad talented brazilian players, 1 of them being roberto abrussezze finished top goal-scorer @ end of season. on 9 march 1969, motagua secured first ever professional national championship in 1–1 draw against all-time archrivals c.d. olimpia; result made them unreachable in standings.
