”in twyford , stenson leofric had 4 carucates of land geld. there land 3 ploughs (plows). there 2 ploughs in demesne , 4 villans , 5 bordars 1 plough , 1 mill rendering 5 shillings have 1 plough. there 1 mill rendering 2 shillings , 24 acres (97,000 m) of meadow, woodland pasture 1 furlong long , 1 broad. tre worth 8 pounds 4 pounds.“
the river crossing there has not been used in recent times; there chain ferry there until 1963.[1]
st andrew s church @ twyford unusual sight outside appears of brick construction stone extensions , steeple. in fact brickwork fascia internal investigation reveals. 220 yards (200 m) river trent floods every winter never, seems, has church been flooded. has been damaged lightning in 1821 , fire in 1910. lower part of tower dates 1200. local tradition tells of food being handed out wayfarers stone-framed window in nearby farmhouse. charity administered monks religious house of knights hospitallers @ village of arleston.
