what later became lwp formed during second world war polish 1st tadeusz kościuszko infantry division, unofficially known berling army. late beginning of 1945, out of approximately 40 thousand officers, lwp had half, or 18,996, soviet officers, including 36 generals.


it not polish formation fought along allied side, nor first 1 in east - although first polish force formed in ussr, anders army, had time moved iran. polish forces grew beyond 1st division 2 major commands - polish first army (berling s) , polish second army (commanded karol Świerczewski). polish first army participated in vistula–oder offensive , battle of kolberg (1945) before participating in final offensive battle of berlin.
