the site on church stands of ancient religious significance. church yard contains celtic crosses, oldest of dates backs 5th century ad - evidence of keeill. in 1190, king reginald of isle of man gave grant of land of escadala, in isle of man st bees priory, in cumbria. site of church included in grant, fact subsequent reconstruction , selection parish church (despite remoteness) attributable.
