after amendments 1935 philippine constitution approved in 1941, elected (1941) philippine senate, unable serve until 1945 because of outbreak of world war ii.


having enrolled prior world war ii officer in reserves, made liaison officer between commonwealth government , united states army forces in far east headquarters of general douglas macarthur. accompanied president quezon corregidor supervised destruction of philippine currency prevent capture japanese. when quezon left corregidor, roxas went mindanao direct resistance there. prior quezon s departure made executive secretary , designated successor presidency in case quezon or vice-president sergio osmeña captured or killed.


roxas captured in 1942 japanese invasion forces. became chief advisor josé p. laurel, secretly sympathetic guerrilla movement, passed information via ramona (mona) snyder edwin ramsey. returned military service of philippine commonwealth army joining troops , military officers of men beginning liberation against japanese forces.


when congress of philippines convened in 1945, legislators elected in 1941 chose roxas senate president.
