iphiclides podalirius (linnaeus, 1758), scarce swallowtail, butterfly found in gardens, fields , open woodlands. found in places sloe thickets , particularly orchards. widespread throughout europe exception of northern parts. range extends northwards saxony , central poland , eastwards across asia minor , transcaucasia far arabian peninsula, india, , western china. scarce swallowtail getting rarer due loss of habitat , food plants. protected law in european countries. considered rare or endangered in provinces of austria , of indeterminate status throughout europe.
i. feisthamelii
iphiclides feisthamelii (duponchel, 1832), southern swallowtail, swallowtail found on iberian peninsula , in northwest africa. southern swallowtail considered subspecies of i. podalirius.
i. podalirinus
iphiclides podalirinus (oberthür, 1890), chinese scarce swallowtail, little-known species occurring in china, considered subspecies of i. podalirius. not known threatened more data required on butterfly.
