rules

two contestants play against 1 another. title of game indicates, based on 2 skills: numeracy , literacy.


in television version, there duels . these speed problems first player provide correct answer receives points. both contestants may receive points in solving other problems. finally, there game called sprint final contestants have fastest solve 2 final rounds.


the winner of match first player win 2 games or player wins opening game 50 points or more.


each show made of 16 problems presented in 3 sections. first , second sections consist of 2 letter problems , 2 numbers problems played alternatively , followed duel. third round consists of 2 letter problems , 2 numbers problems played alternatively , followed final sprint. if players tied @ end of program buzzer question used break tie.


le compte est bon ( total right )

the goal of round arrive @ chosen number (from 101 999) using 4 basic arithmetic operations (+, -, ×, ÷) applied 6 numbers chosen randomly following alternatives: 1 10; 25; 50; 75; 100 (each number drawn entire set, same number may appear more once). once these 6 numbers selected, three-digit target number generated. players have 45 seconds combine numbers arithmetically goal of producing target number. contestants may use each of 6 numbers selected once, , result of each operation performed them once – example, if contestant multiplies 4 25 obtain 100, or may no longer use 4 or 25, may use 100 in further calculations. s not mandatory use numbers. numbers used must positive integers.

contestants signal have obtained target number saying le compte est bon. ten points awarded each contestant arrives @ target number or, if number cannot reached (as checked computer), each contestant reaching closest possible number. if neither contestant obtains best solution possible, contestant or contestants result nearest target number receive 7 points each.


numbo

in 1987 daniel defays implemented computer program called numbo uses probabilistic parallel processing model human performance in game le compte est bon.


le mot le plus long ( longest word )

in round, 1 contestant asked how many vowels s/he used in randomly-generated 10-letter selection (each chosen unseen possible vowels or consonants). specific letters may drawn multiple times. game used 7 letters originally, before steadily increasing 8, , later 9 until 4 april 2010. contestants selected letters alternatively asking vowel or consonant one-by-one.


the goal find longest word using available letters. players have 30 seconds study board , find word. contestant longest word scores number of letters in word; both contestants points if there tie. if contestant tries longer word not in programme s dictionaries, or word rejected, or opponent may score number of letters claimed shorter word. example, if contestant produces nine-letter word rejected , or opponent produces acceptable word shorter, opponent gains 9 points. if both words incorrect, no 1 scores. diacritics not count: instance, french word épeler (to spell) formed tiles e p e l e r.

duels

there several variations of duel section:



the classic version, consists of finding 2 words on same theme after 10 letters have been given, using each letter once , once,
l un dans l autre ( 1 within other ): ten given letters, find ten-letter word , word, within first; 1 proper noun, other common noun,
la bonne orthographe (the correct spelling ): word proposed , winner 1 spells word correctly first,
le calcul mental ( mental arithmetic ): players must complete calculation (for example, 24 × (32 − 5 × (42 ...)) in heads.

only 1 answer accepted, first player provide one. if answer correct, 5 points awarded player giving it. if answer incorrect, player s opponent receives 3 points.


final sprint

at end of game, contestants play final sprint have solve 2 problems. opposed other rounds during game (except duels), these have been generated prior show , admit @ least 1 perfect solution (either 10-letter word or number can found 6 given numbers) contestants must find fast possible. in duels, 1 answer accepted, first player provide one. if answer correct, 5 points awarded player giving it. if answer incorrect, player s opponent receives 3 points.


each contestant, starting lowest-scored one, chooses kind of problem want play with : numbers or letters.


les mots de la fin

this round introduced in 2016 along new set show. winning contestant plays round. s/he has 2 minutes find longest word 9 different 10-letter selection possible. each correct answer worth € 100. longest word either 7, 8, 9 or 10 letters long , maximum word length indicated in each selection. contestant may pass , move on next selection, , selections cycled until time expires or 9 have been solved.
