16th century

17th century

18th century

19th century modern day

in 1947 hamilton hosted first evening race meeting in uk. wolverhampton racecourse holds evening meetings, 50 year.


the jockey club governed sport until governance role handed british horseracing board, (formed in june 1993) , while bhb became responsible strategic planning, finance, politics, race planning, training , marketing, jockey club continued regulate sport. in 2006 formed horseracing regulatory authority carry out regulatory process whilst focused on owning 13 racecourses , gallops in newmarket , lambourn. in july 2007 hra merged bhb form british horseracing authority.
