in 1647, became member of pious bachelor society, de sodaliteit van de bejaerde jongmans , fraternity bachelors established jesuit order. did not stop him seeking out company of women. started relationship cornelia van heulens. relationship produced daughter, maria chatharina, born on 3 august 1656. still life painter jan pauwel gillemans elder godfather. not long thereafter, on 22 october 1656, van son married mother of child. 2 years later son, named jan frans, born. last child of couple, called maria chatharina, baptized on 5 october 1660.

van son s work appreciated collectors , paintings in collections of artists such victor wolfvoet , traders such geraert van dorth. pupils of van son frans van everbroeck, jan pauwel gillemans younger, cornelis van huynen, norbert montalie , abraham herderwijn (aberam herderwyn). son jan frans 9 when died , therefore not trained joris. rather, jan frans pupil of jan pauwel gillemans elder. jan frans became still life painter , worked in england.
