all remaining librarian staff assessed political leaning during nazi dictatorship. head of library no. i, in charge before nazi period, assessed being bourgeois democrat, fellow head colleagues in kreuzberg. thereafter library no. i reopened. new librarians educated, working on 3 week days, , learning 3 days in new librarian school of berlin.
the replenishment of bookstock, centrally directed department of public education under communist auspices within undivided magistrate, brought many soviet glorifying , communist literature libraries. after separating city administrations 1 eastern sector , 3 western sectors in november , december 1948 library no. i, public libraries in west berlin, came under newly built library department in west berlin. new western department urged separating out of books, time considered being communist propaganda. political division of berlin caused many librarians working in east berlin, experienced , qualified, quitting jobs , applying @ libraries in western sectors. migration ended in 1961, when berlin wall inhibited it. compared librarians in west of germany background of many librarians in west berlin , general experience of west berliners communist rule in east partially explains reluctance books of communist authors, of socialist leaning (not confused social democratic) east bloc provenance acknowledged in purchasing conferences held librarians.

in august 1951 library no. i moved location in verbandshaus der deutschen buchdrucker on dudenstraße 10, reading room opened months later. bookstock had recovered in numbers, antiquated, since due lack of funds, many book donations of poor shape, quality , currentness had been integrated collection.
in 1953 alfred kalisch (*1925) became head of library no. i. after in 1954 new central public library west berlin, america memorial library (amerika-gedenkbibliothek, agb), financed through mccloy grant in memory of enduring berlin blockade west berliners , western allied forces involved, had opened doors attracted many kreuzbergers prior used frequent 1 of 4 smaller public libraries in borough of kreuzberg.

on occasion of reopening library no. i renamed friedrich von raumer library. new premise designed open access library right beginning. kreuzberg s central public bookbindery moved zossener straße new building. reading room closed , converted open access library of juvenile literature in 1957. in same year bookbindery moved kreuzberg borough hall on yorckstraße 4–11. in 1969 kalisch succeeded dehms head of kreuzberg s public libraries.
in 1971 raumer library received subject heading catalogue. following 1968 movement labour , forms of collaboration among librarians became less hierarchic, more collegial , broader number of personnel included in decision taking. informal new panels seized tasks of other boards, in 1977 purchase conference ceased meet, , librarians involved in decision taking. these new forms of collaboration entailed high identification of librarians work , library.

in 1987 library closed time due thorough overhaul. in 1988 raumer library started lending cds. in 1996 spd faction in kreuzberg borough assembly moved assessing possibility , consequencies of closing raumer library , bona peiser library. in signature campaigns more 5,000 people came out in favour of maintaining concerned libraries. libraries remained, however, kreuzberg budget book , media purchases cut dm 400,000 210,000 in 1997. in late 2000 raumer library became part of vÖbb.
