after end of masters of universe toy line, mattel attempted revive interest in he-man producing new toy line, entitled he-man. accompanying storyline in mini-comics packaged figures explained he-man had left eternia , pursued skeletor depths of space, skeletor had set sights on conquering distant world of primus (a planet great technological resources). he-man shown have relinquished identity of prince adam altogether, basing himself on primus led team of defenders known galactic guardians. he-man s appearance retooled new toy line, space helmet , golden armor added attire give him more futuristic appearance; sword redesigned.


in insert comics issued in toy line s run, prince adam begins transform – grabbed skeletor, astonished see prince adam casting kind of strange spell (not realizing transform he-man). still holding onto adam, skeletor caught in backwash of power comic proclaimed prince adam no more. long live he-man! therefore, he-man responsible cybernetic breastplate on skeletor s figurine.


a cartoon series produced jetlag productions accompany toy line, entitled new adventures of he-man. although following story line mini-comics (with deviations, such skeletor s having cybernetic breastplate , never discovering prince adam , he-man same person), series maintained double identity of prince adam , he-man. on planet primus, prince adam posed traveling merchant , nephew of master sebrian disguise secret identity. transformation oath altered slightly, become power of eternia... .

to tie in new line of action figures based upon original toy line, new he-man cartoon series produced in 2002-03 mike young productions again entitled he-man , masters of universe. series retold masters of universe story beginning. he-man s origin told in 90-minute series premiere, in 16-year-old prince adam summoned castle grayskull sorceress assume identity of he-man , role eternia s defender. portrayal of character in series consistent filmation s portrayal, although character of prince adam brasher , more youthfully energetic 1980s counterpart (conveying image of teenage boy saddled responsibility of defending planet evil). adam/he-man character redesigned, make character s secret identity more credible. third-season episode power of grayskull revealed adam/he-man descendant of king grayskull (a powerful barbarian , hero eternia s ancient past), sacrificed life in order save eternia evil horde , wielded sword of power. original owner of castle grayskull; sword concealed in castle centuries before being given prince adam, inherited ancestor s own power channeled through sword (thus giving added meaning phrase power of grayskull... ).

this action-figure line combined elements he-man universe cohesive storyline biographies on figures packaging. these biographies suggested several he-men have come existence – such vikor (based on concept design vintage he-man), oo-larr (based on jungle he-man first minicomic), , wun-dar (based on so-called wonder bread he-man figure) – prince adam 1 wielded power sword , transformed true he-man.
