born in albany, new york, levine attended university of miami. published first work, resonance of hope, in 1959. after working editor , writer in new york city, levine 1 of founders of san francisco oracle in 1966.


he spent time helping sick , dying, using meditation method of treatment; program shared psychologist richard alpert (ram dass) , psychiatrist elisabeth kubler-ross.


the author of several books dying, levine , wife ondrea spent 1 year living if last. levine s son noah rejected father s work, started teach meditation on own. levine , wife ondrea appeared in 2007 documentary, meditate , destroy, focuses on life of son noah levine.


for many years, stephen , ondrea lived in near seclusion in mountains of northern new mexico. ondrea still lives in northern new mexico. stephen levine died @ home after long illness on january 17, 2016 @ age of 78.
