camp pico blanco @ 793 feet (242 m) elevation on north fork. upstream tributaries include jackson creek, pine creek, puerto suelo creek, , comings creek. small creek enters little sur river via waterfall @ location of seasonal reservoir in camp proper. immediate camp environment consists of 7 distinct biotic habitats: coast redwood/mixed evergreen forest, white alder riparian woodland, herbaceous vegetation, aquatic habitat, bare alluvium, bare ground, , sur complex bedrock. camp accessed via narrow , winding palo colorado road, 7.6 miles (12.2 km) coast. of redwoods in vicinity of camp planted between 1910 , 1921.

there seasonal 11 feet (3.4 m) high concrete flash board dam on north fork of river in camp pico blanco. built in 1953, creates small recreational reservoir 2 acres (0.81 ha) in size. in 2002, california department of fish & game attempted stop monterey bay area council using dam. after intervention rep. sam farr , senator bruce mcpherson, fish , game retreated preventing council filling dam, stipulated regulations must adhered to.
the national marine fisheries service discovered shortly afterward council appeared have filled dam in violation of these regulations, dewatering river below dam , killing @ least 30 threatened steelhead trout. council have been subject fines of $360,000. council avoided paying fine building $1 million custom fish ladder designed swanson hydrology + geomorphology. don chapin company, long-time supporter of monterey bay area council, honoree @ 2006 dinner @ recognized donating cost of constructing fish ladder. california state representative sam farr s father helped build camp, , farr attended camp boy.
