2012: three-year-old season

in 2012 samitar bought privately martin s. schwartz. began second season finishing unplaced in tattersalls sales race on 6 furlongs @ newmarket on 18 april , sent france poule d essai des pouliches on 1600 metres @ longchamp racecourse in finished ninth of thirteen runners behind beauty parlour. on 27 may @ curragh, samitar 1 of 8 fillies contest irish 1000 guineas in ridden martin harley , started @ odds of 12/1. homecoming queen (horse) started favourite after nine-length win in 1000 guineas while other runners included la collina (phoenix stakes) , yellow rosebud (derrinstown stud 1,000 guineas trial). after racing in third place behind homecoming queen, samitar took lead approaching final furlong , stayed on win 1 , half lengths 33/1 outsider ishvana. victory gave both trainer , jockey first classic race success. after race harley said big opportunity given first ride in classic. boss has given me lot of chances , give me ride in classic unbelievable. travelled winner whole way . explaining filly s poor form in last 2 starts channon said didn t run badly [in france] made running , should have been held up. fault running in sales race @ newmarket before that, trying clever dropping 6 furlongs. needed decent ground , s got .

on 15 september, samitar, ridden ramon dominguez, started odds-on favourite grade garden city stakes on 9 furlongs @ belmont park. rivals included karlovy vary (ashland stakes), tannery (kilboy estate stakes) , somali lemonade. karlovy vary went front , set steady pace samitar settled in fourth place. amitar switched outside entering straight, took lead inside final furlong , held off late challenge of somali lemonade win head. after race brown said had been training great , blended our program nicely. came me in shape begin with. happy see mile , eighth. 1 reservation, watching train , in races. has quality it, needed see it, , saw today, great. ramon rode terrific race .

in spring of 2013 samitar finished second centre court in both honey fox handicap @ gulfstream park , jenny wiley stakes before running fourth behind stablemate pianist when favourite gallorette handicap @ pimlico race course. in fairy garden stakes @ belmont park on 4 july ridden javier castellano , recorded first success of year prevailed 1 , quarter lengths baffle me. later month returned grade class in diana handicap @ saratoga race course , finished fourth behind laughing, dream peace , stephanie s kitten. dropped in class speed boat stakes @ same track on 1 september , beat baffle me neck. on final racecourse appearance eleven days later started favourite grade iii athenia stakes @ belmont finished third behind pianist , abaco.
