the museums collection had earlier been 1 of important in central asia, on 100,000 items dating several millennia. start of civil war in 1992, museum looted numerous times resulting in loss of 70% of 100,000 objects on display. since 2007, number of international organizations have helped recover on 8,000 artifacts, recent being limestone sculpture germany. approximately 843 artifacts returned united kingdom in 2012, including famous 1st century bagram ivories.
