History Eagle River, Anchorage

the name eagle river first reported in 1939 u.s. geological survey. eagle river/chugiak area settled homesteaders , prospered on agricultural activities. eagle river post office established in 1961.


in spite of local opposition, both chugiak , eagle river became annexed municipality of anchorage, when city of anchorage , greater anchorage area borough unified in 1975. efforts secede municipality surfaced around 2000, no longer prominent community has seen influx of individuals have social , economic ties anchorage , nearby joint base elmendorf–richardson.
