biography
early life
alony born , raised on kibbutz gvulot, located in northwestern negev desert. parents, shimon , shoshana, among founders of kibbutz. father arrived in israel @ age of seventeen on kastner train. mother, shoshana, born on moshav givat hen, near ra anana; father, israel, had been member of group of vegan pioneers tried settle mount kinneret , later deserted area.
in 1960, future of kibbutz gvulot in jeopardy following departure of of members. along few others, alony’s parents stayed; alony 1 of handful of children remained on kibbutz. years of communal sleeping in children’s house, constant search social , academic frameworks in nearby kibbutzim , loneliness left mark on him.

alony earned bachelor s degree in architecture , urban planning technion – israel institute of technology, , master’s in urbanism , interdisciplinary studies polytechnic university of catalonia’s institute advanced architecture (thesis: nomad trajectories). @ end of fourth year @ technion, alony won competition planning community settlement mitzpe aviv, along architect tony barter.
a partner @ architecture firm “i-alony – d.drori,” has designed such projects as: master plan development of western negev (competition winner); derech habesor, including suspension bridge above habesor stream; kiryat malakhi elderly day care center (competition winner); design of tzukim community settlement in arava area; expansion of kibbutzim , moshavim; planning of residential neighborhoods , commercial areas in budapest, , commercial centers in serbia.

in 2005, alony founded block—city/media/theory/architecture , multidisciplinary urban magazine. alony magazine’s co-editor-in-chief. magazine distributed keter publishing house, , supported mifal hapayis council culture , arts.
the magazine’s wide scope of activities included organizing symposia on urban-cultural topics; participating in first bat-yam biennale of landscape urbanism (bus stations living spaces); curating exhibition insomnia in petach-tikva museum of art; participating in exhibition “temporary cities” in barcelona.
in 2005 alony participated in group exhibition communal sleeping curated tali tamir @ helena rubinstein pavilion of tel aviv museum of art. exhibition provided critical view of communal sleeping practices in children’s houses of kibbutz. alony’s work, lexicon of communal words , exhibited index cards words representing basic concepts of life on kibbutz, projected on screen.

in 2009, alony published first novel, thief of dreams (yediot ahronoth , sifrei hemed), edited anat levit.
in 2012, alony co-founded afik publishing house of israeli literature professor dan miron. same year, second book, spare parts , published , became best-seller.
in 2013, first book of poems, let thorns die , edited professor dan miron, published. in 2014, published second book of poems, gravity , edited dror burstein. both books, published afik , , alony’s poems published in various newspapers.
in 2015, alony’s collection of short stories, garuda’s gaze , edited nurit zarchi , professor dan miron,
in 2016, alony’s story collection, plagues , published, presenting different interpretations of ten plagues. review uri hollander appeared in haaretz newspaper.
in 2014, alony established maaboret—the short story project , online project curates , publishes short stories across world; stories appear in original language, , translated english, spanish, german , hebrew, both in text , audio. each story uniquely displayed video images. project allows free access , adaptable digital device. project supported mifal hapayis council culture , arts, goethe-institut, , private agencies.
