an important way in rgs-ibg develops new knowledge , advances geographical science providing funding geographical research , scientific expeditions. society offers number of grants researchers, students, teachers , independent travellers. more 70 projects supported each year , in excess of £180,000 awarded annually. research has been conducted in more 120 countries, namibia brazil greenland.

student grants

each year, society supports on 50 student fieldwork projects, phd students collecting data dissertation groups of undergraduates looking out field first time. grants available both human , physical geography projects, in area of world.

the society supports range of field , desk-based research academic geographers, established researchers undertaking cutting edge fieldwork career academics working on smaller projects. rgs-ibg supports academics attending geographical conferences around world. awards focus on particular geographical regions or topics, others open aspect of discipline.

the society supports innovation in teaching geography @ secondary , higher education level, offering several awards school teachers work alongside researchers @ cutting edge of geographical research, develop educational resources classroom, , create imaginative , innovative teaching materials.
