austin a40 sports, ca 1951, designed eric neal , manufactured austin motor company in conjunction jensen motors. car originated when leonard lord, upon seeing jensen interceptor, requested jensen develop body use a40 mechanicals.


between 1914 , 1918 lord worked in munitions factory in coventry, after first world war in manufacturing plant daimler engines. in 1923 moved morris motors limited involved in rationalising stages of production process. in 1927 morris bought wolseley motors limited, , lord transferred there in order modernise production equipment. in 1932 lord promoted general manager @ morris, working cowley factory. in 1938 after many years of conflict william morris, lord left join morris s chief competitor, austin motor company.


at time, herbert austin looking direct company, son having been killed during war. ultimately, lord selected manage company. advent of second world war, austin converted civil military production, , in particular construction of ambulances , government vehicles. after war, lord became chairman of austin in 1946, , moved company resumption of civil motor-vehicle production. in 1954 appointed knight commander of order of british empire (kbe). through further mergers , acquisitions, lord became president of british motor corporation. on 26 march 1962 raised peerage baron lambury, of northfield in county of warwick.
