on advice of herbert warren, returned magdalen study jurisprudence in october 1921. warren, denning elected eldon law scholarship, worth £100 year, finance studies; when news of denning s election brought, warren wrote marked man. perhaps lord of appeal day . denning took final examinations in june 1922 , impressed examiner, geoffrey cheshire, correctly answering questions on law of property act had been given royal assent few days before.
denning gained first in subjects except jurisprudence, described abstract subject liking . did not return study bachelor of civil law (bcl) instead attempted gain prize fellowship @ souls college, oxford; failed accepted, put down poor pronunciation of latin. awarded 1921 eldon scholarship.
