mcgrath born in 1894 in cincinnati, son of john edward mcgrath , margaret may (groub) mcgrath. after regular cincinnati public schools, started working in 1906 selling newspapers post. in 1908, @ age of 14 western union messenger. in 1918, @ age of 24, got married.

in 1920 mcgrath joined williamson company, producer of heating equipment in cincinnati, ohio. in 1931 appointed executive vice president, , in 1943 elected president. in 1959 became chairman of board.

under mcgraths direction williamson company had diversified product line include cooling equipment... , had become major supplier of containers jet engines, missiles, , delicate electronic instrumentations.

later in career, beside work @ williamson company, mcgrath had served director of cincinnati gas & electric company, cinergy; fifth third union trust company, fifth third bank; cambridge tile company; cincinnati enquirer incorporated, publisher of cincinnati enquirer ; , american tool works co. in cincinnati.

from 1949 1952 mcgrath served industry adviser united states employer delegate annual june conferences of international labour organization in geneva, switzerland. in 1954, , again in 1955, served united states employer delegate conference, heading american employer delegation. in 1954, has elected three-year period united states employer representative on governing body of organization.

in year 1947-1948 mcgrath served president of society advancement of management successor of harold b. maynard, , succeeded charles c. james. served president of national warm air heating , air conditioning association. in 1974 mcgrath elected great living cincinnatians cincinnati chamber of commerce, had been elected director twice, in 1945 , in 1948.
