the augustinian mirror official student magazine of university of san agustin in iloilo city, philippines. adopted official name of student publication of elementary department of colegio san agustin-makati (founded 1969), sister school of university of san agustin in nation s metropolitan capital region.


it published twice year (once every semester) usa publications. founded in 1928, 1 of country s oldest , prestigious campus magazines. among chief goals nurture young literary minds , social achievers in fields of literature, journalism, philosophy, theology, law , governance. plan establish school publication initiated in 1927. although officially founded in 1928, maiden issue first came out in 1929. started news-oriented tabloid covered annual events , activities of university in english , spanish. being 1 of earliest post-colonial catholic publications in philippines, exhibited in exposition of catholic press @ vatican in 1936. during world war ii, ceased operation school authorities decided close university @ time of great uncertainty.


the post-war volume of 1945 saw gradual change present format news magazine complemented works of fiction, column writing , poetry in 4 subdivided sections: english, filipino, hiligaynon , spanish. in 1946, publication gained first female editor. complementary newspaper, augustinian, established in 1956 focusing on news events in university. became vehicle students , faculty members express opinions on campus , socio-political issues. in 2006, literary journal, irong-irong, launched student medium creative writing.


over years, augustinian mirror has evolved theme-oriented publication. has won countless awards , distinctions excellence in news writing, human rights, tourism , travel in past decades. three-time recipient of gawad lopez jaena award excellence in campus journalism, highest distinction given government-run philippine information agency (pia). has won 9 times distinction of being adjudged best college magazine in western visayas copre (college press conference) , has been cited national collegiate press 1 of 3 best campus magazines of philippines in 1970s. has produced outstanding writers later went on become recipients of carlos palanca memorial awards literature. after numerous journalism awards nineteen consecutive years, granted in 2006 right hand out own awards known sanag campus press awards.
