during world war ii, train traffic severely restricted, , after air raids stopped running altogether. services resumed after end of world war ii , 24 passenger trains stopped @ ulm station on 21 august 1945. on 28 may 1967, station became part of trans-europ-express network, had been established in 1957 , had first class accommodation. 28 may 1967, tee rembrandt amsterdam munich , rheinpfeil dortmund munich, coaches amsterdam, stopped @ ulm. on 26 september 1971, intercity services introduced, stopping every 2 hours @ station. until 1979, ulm served first class services on line 1 of intercity network, running between hamburg-altona , munich, although, unlike other cities served intercity trains, had less 100,000 inhabitants. rheinpfeil lost tee status , integrated intercity line 1. summer timetable introduced on 27 may 1979, intercity trains ran every hour , had first , second class carriages. on 28 may 1983, tee rembrandt service shortened stuttgart, meaning no longer stopped @ ulm. in december 1985, portion of tee rheingold had run amsterdam munich , salzburg via aalen , donauwörth since may 1982 rerouted via ulm, on 30 may 1987, abolished. on 2 june 1991, deutsche bundesbahn introduced intercity-express traffic, hourly intercity route hamburg-altona via hannover, frankfurt , stuttgart munich replaced new ice trains. in controversial move, decided stop ice in ulm.

in 2012, ulm hauptbahnhof served @ least hourly intercity-express, intercity , euro city trains. 2 ice routes, 11 , 42, run every 2 hours, hourly service provided. route 11 operated ice 1 sets 7 pairs of trains running between berlin ostbahnhof , munich , 1 between hamburg-altona , munich. route 42 served ice 3 trains , connects ruhr region munich via frankfurt. operated 6 pairs of trains dortmund munich, 1 münster , hamm munich, coupled set in dortmund , pair of trains hamburg-altona munich. tgv route 83 runs pair of trains daily between munich , paris using tgv pos sets. in addition, twice week, railjet train pair runs on route 90 between frankfurt , wiesbaden , budapest.


intercity route 60 , eurocity route 62 each run every 2 hours hourly service produced. gaps in schedule filled individual services on routes 32 , 55. intercity route 60 runs 5 pairs of trains between karlsruhe , munich, 1 between strasbourg , munich , between karlsruhe , salzburg. 2 pairs of trains run on euro city route 62 frankfurt klagenfurt, 1 pair of trains frankfurt graz, frankfurt linz, 1 frankfurt munich , pair of trains saarbrücken graz. 1 pair of trains on route 32 coupled on part of journey eurocity route 62 service , runs under name of wörthersee between münster , dortmund , klagenfurt. second pair of trains on route 32 runs intercity between münster , innsbruck , turns in ulm on southern railway. intercity train pair on route 55 runs between stuttgart , ulm part of timetable pattern of line 60 , runs under name of allgäu between magdeburg , hannover , oberstdorf. curves in ulm on iller valley railway , runs ulm oberstdorf regional-express, while runs on return journey along entire length intercity. trains on münster–innsbruck route 32 , hannover–oberstdorf route 55 long-distance trains branch off other lines in ulm main line between stuttgart , munich.

in 2012, ulm hauptbahnhof served in regional transport interregio-express, regional-express , regionalbahn services operated db regio , services operated private operators. ulm hub in baden-württemberg s inter-regional express network. ire trains stuttgart , ulm operate lindau (südbahn) , ulm basel (ire-sprinter) on southern railway, ulm aalen on brenz railway , ulm neustadt (black forest) on danube valley railway (donautalbahn). exception of connection lindau, operated hourly, each service runs every 2 hours. services operated electric locomotives of class 146 or diesel locomotives of class 218, hauling double-deck coaches , class 611 diesel multiple units.


regional-express trains run on routes running through ulm, except on southern railway, while routes through ulm served regionalbahn services (local trains). in addition locomotive-hauled push-pull trains double-deck or silberling carriages, there regio-shuttles of class 650 , class 612 diesel multiple units , class 425 , 440 (coradia continental) electric multiple units. trains of private railway company agilis have run since 11 december 2011 on ulm–augsburg railway far günzburg, continuing via bavarian danube valley railway ingolstadt , regensburg, use coradia continental emus.


until october 2013, @ weekend historical railbus, ulmerspatz, ran ulm on danube valley railway , reutlingen–schelklingen railway through swabian jura (kbs 759). has been replaced newer (though still vintage) dmus operated sab.

there stop in station forecourt served ulm tramline 1 (ulm’s tramline) , bus lines 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 , 10 of stadtwerke ulm/neu-ulm (a company providing municipal services in ulm , neu-ulm).


the ulm tramway opened 2 lines ulm station forecourt on 15 may 1897. while 1 tram line linked stations of ulm , neu-ulm, other ran on ring around city centre. construction of zingler bridge crosses tracks south of station gave residents of suburbs lying west of station connection ulm trams had long demanded. tram crossed bridge , continued söflingen 18 october 1906. on 14 may 1947, ulm trolleybus service put operation; 2 lines had stop @ ulm station. replaced tramline 2 neu-ulm, had been closed on 24 december 1944 due effects of war. on 23 october 1963, trolleybus operation abandoned , replaced diesel buses. starting 22 may 1967, ulm tramline 1 used ehinger-tor underpass, completed in 1966, donaustadion söflingen instead of zingler bridge. on 21 march 2009, line 1 extended donauhalle böfingen.
